Happy New Year :D

A new year means a new Occasions catalogue!

One of the first sets that caught my eye  in the soon-to-be released catty was the Dragonfly Dreams bundle so I decided that would be the first set I used to start my classes for 2017.

I had been asked to do sympathy cards for the class and this is the first project I came up with. 

I kept the colours neutral and went for a soft look, hoping the copper  embossing powder and copper foil dragonfly would make the necessary sentiment. 

I have to say I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Thanks for taking a peek :D

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Here's project #2 for this weeks sympathy card class.

I was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest by Dawn Olchefske (thanks for the inspiration Dawn!). 

I really like this card which is strange for me because I have never been fond of Calla lilies!

Growing up these flowers were synonymous with funerals and I think that's why I never took to them. It's funny how things stick  lol.

I love the simplicity of this card with its clean lines and strong image.

The piece of ribbon and bow add just the right amount of softness  that makes it appropriate for a sympathy card don't you think? ☺️

Today I want to share a card I created for my upcoming sympathy card class.

I've used the Bloomin' Heart thinlit to create the centrepiece. I like that you can use it for other occasions than romance.

'Kinda Eclectic'

Happy Monday :D

I hope you had a nice weekend.

My family had visitors from NZ (a friend of my sons and his father) so our weekend was fantastic! 

Today I'm sharing one of the projects for my next class 'Kinda Eclectic'.

I saw a card on Pinterest by Michelle Last (thanks for the inspiration Michelle!) which I loved so I cased it and tweaked it a little. I used the gorgeous 'Timeless Elegance' DSP  to stamp on.

A Workshop At Gail's

Hello all :)

Last Thursday I was invited to do a workshop for the lovely Gail at her house. Gail requested sympathy cards and this is one of the projects the guests got to make.

The splotch is from the 'Perpetual Calendar' stamp set and the reeds are from 'World Of Dreams'.
I teamed Lost Lagoon with Sahara Sand to create a soft colour palette.  This is a simple card but it speaks volumes. Sometimes less really is more :)

Soft Hues Of Blue

Happy Sunday all :D

The sun was out here today and I could even hear the melting of snow! I don't want to jinx things but it felt like Spring was on its way.

Today's post is a close up of one of the projects for my sympathy card class. It's softness in shades of blue. I have used the beautiful 'Irresistibly Yours' DSP and sponged it with Marina Mist. This is a colour I haven't used in a while but it's perfect for this card.

Beautiful 'Branch Out' for Sympathy

 

Hello all :)

It's been a blustery blizzard of a day here. I haven't ventured out

much today at all! I remind myself that these kinds of days are perfect for crafting ;)

 

Todays post is one of the projects for my upcoming class. I love how this card turned out, especially as the finished project looks exactly how it did in my mind! That doesn't always happen lol.

 

I used the retired stamp set 'Branch Out' but you could swap it for the new set 'Sheltering Tree'. The sentiment is from 'Petite Pairs' which is such a versatile stamp set to have.

Simply Beautiful Sympathy Cards

Thanks For Caring

I can't believe it's Wednesday already. I have been so busy these past few days that I forgot to post for my upcoming class next week. Ekkkk.

Better late than never though, so here is one of the projects for my 'Thanks For Caring' class. It is three sympathy cards. Something that is always good to have on hand.

This card is 5 1/4 x 5 1/4". I have kept the colours neutral except for the splash of Primrose Petal Co-ordinations cardstock that I embossed and sanded. The cardstock is specifically designed for this and the results are great.
Here's a closer look ...

Do you notice the shimmer on the centre flower? I embossed the flowers on vellum and spritzed them with a mix of Blushing Bride ink, rubbing alcohol and white shimmer paint. I really like the finished effect. It's subtle and delicate which is the result I was wanting.

With Sympathy

Today I have a sympathy card to share with you that I recently made for a friend who lost her father-in-law. I wanted to make something masculine and for some reason, trees represent masculinity to me.
I've used a retired set (Trees Three) and stamped the main image three times, in various shades of grey. Each time I moved the image slightly to create a shadow effect. The Stamp-a-ma-jig was the perfect tool for the job!
I sponged the tree line in shades of greens and added some splotches with white craft ink. I thought they added a slight ethereal touch. I stamped the background with my 'Well Worn' background stamp and the rest is pretty straightforward. I'm really pleased with the result.

Nice In Neutrals

The original idea for today's card came from one of the ASI team members (Thanks Sandi!). Sandi's card was in black and white. It inspired me to try a neutral card of my own.
Here I have used nothing but neutral colours... Black, Crumb Cake, early Espresso and Very Vanilla. I love the way the colours work together. The card is elegant and timeless. It is soft enough to be suitable for a sympathy card yet bold enough to make a statement. Can you tell that I love?!

Add some brads and linen thread, pierce a few rows of holes and viola, a nice and neutral card to share.

The Embossibilities are Endless!

Finally I can upload my next class photos. I am not sure what was happening yesterday but whatever it was it's fixed today.
So here you have it... three cards all made with a different technique and embossing folder.
The first card (above) uses the beautiful Tulip embossing folder. I have used it to create a 4 1/4" square card instead of the regular 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" size. I've also heat embossed the gorgeous elephants with the new melon mambo embossing powder. Aren't they sweet?!

Next up is a technique where you emboss only parts of the folder pattern...
I have used an oval shim to create the blank space in the centre of the card. Pretty cool huh. I've also sponged over the embossing to give the card some colour and more defined texture. This is so simple but isn't it effective. I have embossed and sponged the envelope flap to match too. This is a great card to have on standby for those birthdays we all seem to forget.

Lastly is a technique where you brayer colour onto your embossing folder before you put it through the Big Shot...
I love this technique. It makes the embossing really pop from the card. Here I've used the new folder in the latest mini called 'Flower Garden'. It's much prettier than my garden currently which is in dire need of weeding!

Another Crimped Card Project

Today's greetings come from Truro!
My NZ friend and I did a little road trip to visit my wonderful upline Carol who lives there.

I am determined to post something every day so had to be organised with my photos. I decided that emailing the photos to myself was the easiest way to have photos to post and here is today's offering.
This is one of the cards I made for the Crimping class. I had seen a Christmas card done with the crimped pattern and thought the sympathy sentiment would lend itself nicely to the same thing.
I think the crimping adds a little bit of subtle interest that is nice.

Crazy For Crimping!

I finally did it... I purchased a crimper. It has been on my wish list for the longest time, but no more.
I have had lots of fun trying ideas for a class and this is what I have come up with. I'm going to be a tease and not post all the photos of the projects today like I usually do. I'm going to spread them out for my daily postings!
I will say the class consists of two cards (one is not shown) and the cutest candy container (possibly) ever!
You'll have to come back tomorrow to see what I mean LOL.

I'm Sorry For Your Loss

These are hard words to say and often times a card can express our sentiments when we can't.
That's the reason for my upcoming Sympathy Card class.
Here's what I came up with:


Layer upon layer of Whisper White card stock make up this card. I have added just the faintest hint of blue for the sentiment. To add a bit of interest I added some texture with pearls and ribbon. This card is simple yet so elegant.


For this card I used my favourite colour Baja Breeze (it reminds me of the ocean) with grey and white. It's a clean fresh look yet it has a softness about it that I think it is suitable for a sympathy card.


For the last card of the class I've used the pretty flower image from the new 'Thanks For Caring' stamp set (found in the new mini catalogue) as the main focal point. Teamed with Pink Pirouette' and white, another beautiful, heartfelt card.

In My Thoughts

Today I made a card that I don't often make ... a sympathy card for a friend who had a sudden loss in their family.

I have to confess to finding it difficult creating something of beauty for such a sad occasion. There is so much I want to convey with a sympathy card and I want the card to be beautiful too (but not in the usual gorgeous, 'out there' kind of way). Often I find it hard to get the right balance of sentiment and artistry in a sympathy card but I think I managed to do so with this one. I like it's simplicity and the sense of peace I get when I look at it. I hope it brings a little peace and comfort to the recipients.

For this card I used one of my favourite SU! Sets - 'Branch Out' (it's retired but I just love it) and masked the landscape. The sentiment is from the set 'Thanks for Caring' in the new mini catty. I used a marker to colour the parts I wanted.
